To preserve the silence within--amid all the noise. To remain open and quiet, a moist humus in the fertile darkness where the rain falls and the grain ripens--no matter how many tramp across the parade ground in whirling dust under an arid sky.

A priest observed a woman sitting in the empty church with her head in her hands. An hour passed. Then two. Still, she was there. Deciding she was in distress, and eager to be of assistance, he went up to the woman and said, “Is there any way I can be of help?” “No, thank you, Father,” she said, “I've been getting all the help I need. Until you interrupted!"

A precious gift we give others is respect for their need of time to enjoy quietness and prayerful listening. This prayerful listening is not necessarily listening for something, such as a message specific for us, but simply a receptive, attentive openness to the mystery of Presence, the Life happening within and around oneself in the Silence.
And advice can be helpful, only that it is often not what is most needed. Better that we help a person listen prayerfully to Grace, than to us.
